The Department of Social Medicine, the University of Bristol is a leading centre for research and teaching in epidemiology, public health and health services research. The Department houses the MRC Centre for Causal Analyses in Translational Epidemiology (CAiTE) and the Bristol Randomised Trials Collaboration, an accredited trials unit.
Collaborative international projects are conducted with partners from Europe, USA, India and Southern Africa. The Department has expertise in modelling and statistics, and an expanding sub-department in infectious disease research.
The University of Cambridge joined the MenAfriCar Consortium in 2013 and has a broad portfolio in infectious disease research. Cambridge is home to a new Wellcome Trust Centre for Global Health, a WHO Collaborating Centre for Modelling, Evolution and Control of Emerging Infectious Disease, and the Cambridge in Africa programme in partnership with African universities and research institutes in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda, among others.
