The Department of Social Medicine, the University of Bristol is a leading centre for research and teaching in epidemiology, public health and health services research. The Department houses the MRC Centre for Causal Analyses in Translational Epidemiology (CAiTE) and the Bristol Randomised Trials Collaboration, an accredited trials unit.

Collaborative international projects are conducted with partners from Europe, USA, India and Southern Africa. The Department has expertise in modelling and statistics, and an expanding sub-department in infectious disease research.
