Health Protection Agency - Vaccine Evaluation Unit, UK
The Health Protection Agency Vaccine Evaluation Unit at Manchester is a national and international reference centre for meningococcal vaccines and serology.
The Unit has considerable international experience, assisting projects in sub-Saharan Africa, New Zealand and Saudi Arabia. Its 34 staff members specialise in the evaluation of meningococcal, pneumococcal, Haemophilus influenzae type b and human papilloma virus vaccines.
The Vaccine Evaluation Laboratory is situated in the Manchester Medical Microbiology Partnership (MMMP), which is a collaboration between Central Manchester and Manchester Children’s University Hospital Trusts, the Health Protection Agency, Manchester University, University Hospital South Manchester and Christie Hospital, making it one of the largest microbiology departments in the UK.
