Cross-sectional Studies Underway
MenAfriCar consortium members are currently conducting cross-sectional surveys of meningococcal carriage in Chad, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and Senegal.
Whilst the aim of the cross-sectional study is to examine patterns of meningococcal carriage in all seven countries, it is hoped that the results of the surveys in Mali and Niger can also be used to demonstrate the effect of the MenAfriVac™ vaccine on meningococcal carriage.
At the end of October the prevalence of meningococcal carriage across all seven countries was approximately 1.3%. It is expected that most of the cross-sectional surveys will have been completed by the end of November 2010.
