In April, 2012, scientists from Europe, the US and Africa met at the “Le Lagon” Hotel in Dakar, Senegal, to discuss a future research agenda for monitoring the impact of meningococcal vaccines in Africa. The meeting was jointly organised by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta. The delegates attending the meeting in Dakar came from 12 different countries around the world and were scientists with expertise in public health, microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, health economics and clinical infectious diseases. Key representatives from funding agencies also attended.
