Mali
Epidemics of meningococcal disease are frequent in Mali. More than 1,000 cases were reported during 2004, 2006 and 2008. 269 cases were reported in the first half of year 2009. Although recent epidemics have been caused predominantly by serogroup A meningococci about a half of laboratory confirmed cases seen in 2003 were caused by meningococci belonging to serogroup W135.
