Meningococcal disease is a major problem in the African meningitis belt, which stretches across countries of the African Sahel and sub-Sahel. The Sahel is the region to the south of the Sahara, the sub-Sahel lies south of the Sahel.
The African partner institutions that are part of MenAfriCar are located in countries of the Sahel and sub-Sahel: Chad, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal. Select a country to find out more about meningococcal disease there and the MenAfriCar partners present.
For the latest up-to-date information on the current situation in MenAfriCar’s partner countries see the WHO’s weekly meningitis reports.
